Lily Allen and Stranger Things star David Harbour shocked fans when they married in a low-key Las Vegas in early September, and now the singer has revealed that her wedding dress purchase was just as spontaneous.

The couple married without announcing an engagement, and Allen broke the news via Instagram with three photos in which she is wearing a Dior double-breasted mini dress and tulle veil.

Asked about the dress on the Sex, Lies & DM Slides podcast with Gizzi Erskine and Sidney Lima, Allen said she purchased it on the day of her wedding while out shopping with her daughter.

Originally, she had intended to wear a rental dress from a bridal shop, she told Erskine and Lima, but says her daughter Ethel persuaded her to purchase the belted Dior dress instead.

“Me and my daughter had gone to a place called Beautiful Brides that morning, to go and try on rental dresses and we found one that was like very Dolly Parton esque, like massive sleeves and diamontes and stuff”, explained Allen.

“I was planning on wearing that, and then me and my daughter went shopping and we went into the Dior store and found this dress”, she added.

Allen explained that the Parton inspired dress was already on the way to the hotel where she was staying when her daughter persuaded her to buy the $4,300 (£3,308) Dior design “with an hour in it”.

Allen elaborated in an interview with The Sunday Times, saying that after she told a shop assistant that she was searching for a wedding dress, that the white Dior dress had been brought out from behind the shop floor.

Once Allen had tried it on, she had asked for her daughter’s opinion and said she was shocked to hear the eight-year-old say: “Well, I don't think you're leaving this shop without it”.

While appearing on Erskine and Lima’s podcast, Allen also discussed dating in her twenties. “I felt like a vessel for male enjoyment and I think that a lot of it is fear”, the Smile singer said.

“I think that like, we think, as soon as you're not convincing him that he is doing a good job, he loses his confidence and then who knows what the f**k could happen when that happens."
