Fashion week diary: Samantha's long on invites

Samantha Cameron was up bright and early yesterday, all fresh-faced in the front row at Peter Pilotto. Perhaps she was shopping for tonight's London Fashion Week Downing Street reception as she later showed up at both Erdem and Burberry. It's a dirty job, and so forth... Rumour had it, though, that she'd already chosen her look. "She's wearing long," said one onlooker.

Out of the picture

It's official. It's fashionable to be low profile. If it weren't enough that Tom Ford – the original superstar designer, let's not forget – insisted journalists neither write nor photograph his Monday night show, yesterday Kanye West refused to be photographed front row at Christopher Kane. Sometimes it's chic to come over all shy and retiring. Really.

And they were all yellow

Yellow is rapidly emerging as the colour of the forthcoming spring/summer season, as seen everywhere from Jonathan Saunders to Mulberry and from Peter Pilotto to Pringle – the brand, not the (also yellow) crisps. This is not the best news for anyone reluctant to rise to a fashion challenge. Start reflecting now on yellow things that are good: Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers, banana custard and the Simpsons.
