An exhibition of Yves Saint Laurent's work and life is to open in the UK in July this year at The Bowes Museum in County Durham.

The exhibition, a collaboration between The Bowes Museum and Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, will be the first ever comprehensive display of the designer's work and life to be held in the UK.

The exhibition will host 50 garments including iconic pieces from the French designer's most famous collections, including the Russian Collection, Mondrian dresses and of course the tuxedo.

"The Bowes Museum is a natural destination given its exceptional work with fashion and textiles; the museum and its location also clearly reflects Saint Laurent's and my own passion for inspiring, timeless places." Pierre Berge, President of the Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation commented.

"It is the perfect setting for us - a museum built as a French Chateau, in the age of the Second Empire."

The museum has previously played host to fashion exhibitions on Vivienne Westwood and Stephen Jones.
