Floral hats launch UK's biggest urban gardening festival
A range of flower hats have been created to celebrate the launch of Dig the City
Five hats made entirely of flowers have been created to celebrate the opening of the 2014 Dig the City festival held in Manchester city centre.
The hats were created by Lisa Dickinson owner of Manchester based florist Venus Flowers.
The five head pieces include a fascinator style design made from red roses, a white gypsophila wide brimmed hat. The spiral corkscrew hat is made from craspedia and baby succulent plants. The carnival hat includes gloriosa and vanda orchids and finally the top hat with astilbe, asparagus fern and chrysanthemums.
The floral display comes in a season when flowers have blossomed on everything from the festival favourite - flower headbands to floral beards for men.
Dig the City which kicks off on Saturday is the UK's largest urban greening festival which sees the town centre transformed for 9 days of gardening, shopping and entertainment.
Highlights of the week include House of Fraser's pamper garden with nail decoration at Kiehls and fragrance and beauty talks across the store.
Harvey Nichols will be offering complimentary beauty treatments including massages and make-up classes from brands including Jo Malone and Sisley.
Molton Brown is offering free mini massages and an in-store cocktail making event with The Alchemist.
For the green fingered the highlight of the event will be the 16 show gardens installed around the city streets.
