The annual Best Dressed List, compiled by Eleanor Lambert who has been wading through the ballot papers of fashion journalists, designers and other "authorities" since founding the List in 1940, has been announced for 1995/6.

This year's best-dressed personalities include: John Galliano's muse, Lady Amanda Harlech; Mr and Mrs Imran Khan; Viscountess Serena Linley; Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue ; Sharon Stone; Denzel Washington and the Gucci designer Tom Ford.

The list of those who almost made it makes interesting reading: Uma Thurman;Gwyneth Paltrow; Harrison Ford; Brad Pitt; Annie Lennox.
