Aside from unsightly under-eye bags and a costly coffee habit, not getting enough kip has far more serious implications, such as weight gain, heart disease and shorter life expectancy.

Luckily, though, the beauty industry is here to help with a host of products designed to help you on your quest to get enough sleep.

From scented sprays and lotions to multitasking products that contain calming and relaxing ingredients, in light of Sleep Awareness Week beginning today, here are some of our favourite products designed to help you get your recommended seven to eight hours.

Sleepy Body Lotion, £13.95, Lush

Originally launched as a limited edition holiday exclusive, Lush Cosmetics has made its Sleepy Body Lotion a permanent fixture after it received rave reviews from beauty buffs and insomniacs alike. In fact, one woman even claimed that the miracle cream helped calm her anxiety.

Described by Lush as a “dreamy body lotion”, Sleepy is infused with a combination of gentle oatmeal and calming lavender flower – an ingredient associated with winding down. Simply blanket your body in it before hitting the hay to enrich your skin and soothe your senses.

Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, £18, This Works

A cult favourite, This Works’ Deep Sleep Pillow Spray promises to help you drift off into a deep sleep and, even better, it’s also suitable for use during pregnancy.

Clinically proven to help you fall asleep faster and wake feeling more refreshed, it’s infused with lavender and chamomile to help soothe both body and mind. “Oil of tranquillity”, or vetivert oil, also helps to alleviate stress, settling the nerves and establishing a feeling of balance, while its sedative action also treats mental and physical exhaustion.

Tranquility Candle, £30, Neom Organics

Forget counting sheep because a quick whiff of this sumptuous candle by your bedside is all you need to help send you off into a relaxing slumber.

Expertly blended to help you relax and prepare for sleep, it’s made using a sedative blend of 12 pure essential oils including English lavender, sweet basil and jasmine. It’s also made from 100 per cent vegetable wax meaning the only chemicals released are those by the fragrances it contains and it also burns for up to 35 hours.

Slip, Pure Silk Pillowcase, £79, Cult Beauty

Nothing affects how you look or feel quite as much as sleep, or lack of it should we say, but with the help of this seriously luxe silk pillowcase you’re guaranteed to enjoy your best ever beauty sleep.

Made from 100 per cent pure mulberry silk – which is breathable and a natural temperature regulator – it helps prevent sleep ageing, reduces creases and stops your hair from being twisted and damaged throughout the night. Available in 10 shades from traditional white to red and blush pink.

Knackered Relaxing Bath and Shower Gel, £9, Cowshed

The best way to prep yourself for a good night’s rest is to soak your worries away in a steamy bath. The perfect companion for your tub, Cowshed’s Knackered Relaxing Bath and Shower Gel is made using calming lavender and uplifting eucalyptus essential oils to soothe your tired muscles and relax your mind and body.

It’s also 100 per cent vegetarian, has not been tested on animals and contains no parabens or petrochemicals.
