Why the slingback is this season’s hottest shoe trend
the style has shaken off grandma connotations to become a polished fashion staple
Another season calls for another It-shoe but while this style has long been a wardrobe mainstay, it tends to have been reserved for those over-60.
That’s right, the slingback has been steadily gaining sartorial steam adorning instead, the soles of many a well-heeled style maven.
Something you might only be used to seeing at weddings or at work, they’ve shaken off the grandma connotations to become a polished fashion staple that’s worked its way firmly back into the wardrobes of fashion’s elite.
Partly thanks to Chanel’s cap-toed two-tone offering for autumn/winter 2015 and perhaps the most controversial shoe revival ever – the kitten heel – the slingback is officially en vogue once again.
This season, two major brands sported the style in union with an elegant kitten heel. At Vetments – a brand known for turning questionable fashion items into must-haves – a collaboration with iconic shoe brand Manolo Blahnik saw satin slingback pumps in black and bright pink grace the runway.
While for Dior, black pointed kitten heels came finished with “J’adior” bows delicately knotted to form the straps of a slingback strap.
The resurgence didn’t stop there though, oh no. From Hermes’ slingback flat brogues to Marni’s pointed booties and Moschino’s towering red stilleto’s, footwear was anything but an afterthought this season.
Slingback Shoes

Well, if it’s high-fashion impact you’re after, stick to a low heel but if the kitten variety is a step too far, opt for a short block heel instead.
Either way, the trick here is to pair them with youthful, laid-back pieces in order to balance out that old-lady vibe so try coupling your slingback of choice with slouchy denim, a cropped tailored trouser or even an oversized sweat.
