Since it began in 1994, Supreme’s sell-out collaborations have caused raucous hype among fashion fans, and the brand’s latest partnership is likely to incite a similar reaction.

On Tuesday, Supreme announced that the New York streetwear brand is to launch a new collection with Jean Paul Gaultier.

Following in the footsteps of high fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Comme des Garcons and Thom Browne, Gaultier has revealed the reason he chose to join forces with Supreme is his love of sportswear.

“I have been including elements of sportswear in my collections from the very beginning,” Gaultier tells Vogue.

“It has been one of my codes and my obsessions, I even developed a line ‘Junior Gaultier’ at the end of the 1980s [with that focus].”

He continues, “With Supreme, this inspiration will find its way to a new generation.”

Very little is currently known about the upcoming collaboration, but the brand has released two teaser images ahead of its launch.

The first, which was posted to Supreme’s Instagram account on Tuesday morning, shows a male model wearing a graphic print shirt and matching trousers in bright yellow, a checked blue and red coat with silver buttons and a co-branded belt buckle in Jean Paul Gaultier’s signature bold typeface.

The second image see’s Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon – a fitting choice considering Gaultier designed the singer’s now-iconic cone bra bodices for her 1990 Blond Ambition tour – model a pair of printed red trousers emblazoned with the slogan “f*** racism”, an oversized pinstripe blazer and the same Gaultier/Supreme belt.

The Supreme x Jean Paul Gaultier collection is scheduled to launch in Supreme stores worldwide and online on 11 April.

The announcement comes weeks after Supreme announced a new collection with Italian menswear brand Stone Island for spring/summer 2019.

The range is expected to include everything from glossy jackets and trousers to wind-resistant jackets and camo bucket hats

The Supreme X Stone Island collection is available to buy now online and in Supreme's New York, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Paris stores.
