It comes as no surprise that so many brides choose to get married in the spring – think tweeting birds and flowers in full bloom – but as a wedding guest the season poses quite the sartorial conundrum.

Unfortunately, us Brits have to factor in the ever-changing weather, which, at this time of year, can be a gamble thanks to the illustrious April showers.

So, exactly how does one look stylish and stay warm during a spring wedding?

The trick here is to master the art of layering – the easiest way to get a hold on the unpredictability of the climate.

Whether you’re dying to wear your favourite strappy summer dress, or a floaty skirt and cami combo, investing in a cardigan that you can drape over your shoulders will finish off your ensemble and shield you from unexpectedly chilly gusts.

The same goes for tailored suits too which prove a seriously sharp alternative for those that don’t dig dresses.

You should also look for pieces, like blouses and frocks, that are designed with sleeves. Not only are they classy, they’ll also add a touch of warmth to your get-up without getting overheated.

When it comes to wedding season, colour is equally as important too. So try switching out the wintry hues in favour of softer, springtime ones like yellow, lilac and our personal favourite, leafy green.

Of course, if that’s all a little girlish for your taste prints are a great way to elevate your look. From stripes to florals and polka dots the choice is yours – just make sure to temper the motifs by pairing them with simple add-ons like strappy heels and a plain pint-sized bag that will carry your big day basics.
