Wimbledon Whites: bring the tennis action to you with a wardrobe white-out

Wimbledon is in full swing but for the more sartorially inquisitive of us The Championships are much more than a tennis institution; they’re also a perfect excuse to don an all-white ensemble. A stickler for form and tradition, the tournament is well known for it’s strict dress code and equally, the daring women who attract as much attention for their outfits as they do for their backhands. Setting the tone for success both on an off court, wearing white is a trend that will always be in and while it’s anything but radical for this time of year taking your style cues from the courtside will leave you winning fashion gold.

Stella McCartney – spring/summer 2016

There’s been a white-out on the runway of late too with a host of designers proving that white is right for spring/summer 2016. As a rule, the idea is to keep things simple but with a focus on modern lace, sheer cottons and embellishment an all-white look is anything but ordinary. At Stella McCartney, an emphasis on wearability saw pretty summer dresses enlivened with asymmetric detailing and sport mesh inserts while Ralph Lauren opted for head-to-toe tailoring, styling stark white layers to create strength and impact. For Dior, the operating with an all-white palette signified an idea of femininity that saw delicate scalloped cotton short-shorts with matching chemise tops; a look also adopted at Celine with white lingerie slip dresses and camisoles.

Even if you’re not heading to Wimbledon, the tennis action is never far off when your wardrobe choices come into play. An all-white ensemble keeps things simple yet stylish and is a fuss-free way to update your look all season long but for maximum style points we advise you to take cue from the runway and add dimension to your look with different textures and weights. Try out lace, embellishments or sheer panelling and don’t be afraid to play with length and volume too. As unassuming as it may seem, opting for all-over white is a fashion statement all on it’s own so if you’re a little wary add small pops of colour through your accessories to pare down the intensity without sacrificing any of the fun. This season, it’s all strawberries and cream, pleated skirts and a high fashion white-out.
