The £2.99 bottle is here in the shape of this respectable Spanish crowd-pleaser. Majestic has picked up a parcel of the gluggy, modestly-priced summer quaffer from Spain's Navarra region. An ideal cheerful party bottle.

Under a Tenner: 2004 Ernst Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling, £9.99, Marks & Spencer

This featherweight, off-dry riesling from the Mosel exudes floral aromas and the mouthwateringly appley bite of a crunchy Cox's apple. I've been eagerly waiting for it to hit the shelves since the M&S spring tasting.

Splash Out: 2003 Amayna Sauvignon Blanc, around £13.49, Oddbins, Weavers of Nottingham (0115-958 0922)

A new star from Chile's Leyda Valley, producing both fine chardonnay and excellent sauvignon blanc. This oozes lovely concentrated tropical grapefruit richness and exotic full flavours.
