Sunday lunch

The Society's Exhibition Douro 2011

From a long-established Douro estate, this red is made with traditional port grapes, its quality underlined by 2011 being declared a vintage port year. Full-bodied, deceptively elegant and complex with red fruits and a whisper of oak. A pork, chorizo and olive casserole or hard cheeses would be a good match. £13.50, thewinesociety.com

Midweek meal

Domaine de Mandeville Viognier Pays D'Oc 2013

You can almost taste the hot Mediterranean sun in this ripe, zesty Viognier from the South of France. Traditional flavours of apricots and honey are shot through with a hint of spice and smoke. Ideal with grilled mackerel or tuna, but also works well with lightly spiced Asian dishes. £8, Marks & Spencer

Bargain basement

Viñalba Patagonian Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2012

This boisterous, no-frills red blend from a reliable Argentine producer is just the thing to uncork when you have – hopefully – some grilled lamb or chicken on the barbecue over the next few months. Attractively priced now, it is even better value when the discount comes into affect. £6.29 (from 10 to 30 June; normally £7.29), Co-op stores
