Cadbury’s iconic Freddo bars are on sale for their original price of 10p from today until Sunday 27 January at Tesco.

The beloved milk chocolate treat has slowly increased in price over the years and usually retails at 25p.

But the supermarket giant has decided to indulge fans by turning back the clocks for a limited period of time as it slashes prices on a range of products in celebration of the retailer’s 100th anniversary.

Tesco chief customer officer, Alessandra Bellini, said: “We understand that the nation wanted to see the price of the iconic Freddo chocolate bars return to the original price of 10p.

“Given we are celebrating 100 years of great value, we’re really pleased to have been able to give our customers what they want, and have some fun at the same time!”

News of the discount has been very well received by Freddo fans, with many expressing their undying gratitude to Tesco on Twitter.

“On the verge of a national crisis and thank goodness for Tesco,” teased one person in response to the news.

“Not all heroes wear capes,” added another.

Freddos are a staple of nostalgia for chocophiles, particularly those with a penchant for the 90s, which is when the chocolate bar was relaunched in the UK at the price of 10p.

In March 2017, Cadbury was heavily criticised for increasing the price of Freddo bars to 30p.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn famously highlighted the prevalence of the issue in a video interview with Copa 90 in 2018 when he was asked if there was “a secret Freddo tax” that was bumping up the price.

“I think we need to examine this question in some detail and see if there is excessive profit-making by those who make Freddos – then they’ve got us to answer to,” he told presenter David ‘Vuj’ Vujanic.

A year later, Cadbury decided to bring the price back down to 25p – and people were thrilled.

Evidently, the humble chocolate frog holds a place in many people’s hearts.
