Gin doesn’t have to be expensive to be the best - as Aldi’s £9.99 Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin has just won the award for one of the best gins in the world, for the second year in a row.

After being named by the prestigious International Spirits Challenge (ISC) as one of the best gins in the world last year, the inexpensive gin has regularly sold out of Aldi stores.

And we imagine it will now be near impossible to get your hands on a bottle - as the discount gin again takes its place in the list of top gins in the world.

Beating better known and much more expensive brands in the competition, including the renowned Sipsmith, Beefeater, and Gordon’s, the affordable gin has proven that it can compete against the best - after winning a gold medal at the spirits competition.

The announcement comes just short of a year after the same award-winning bottle of gin won a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC).

And Aldi’s Oliver Cromwell gin wasn’t the store’s only winner this year - the slightly more expensive £13.99 Topaz Premium Gin also proved its place in the gin world by taking home a silver medal.

Of the store’s winning spirits, Julie Ashfield, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi, said: “Both firm customer favourites, we're particularly thrilled that our own-label Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin, and Topaz Premium Gin have been successful at yet another international competition. It's always a proud moment when a distinguished awarding body recognises our own-label range.”

Considering gin is the most popular spirit in the UK, the competition was likely fierce, but Aldi’s own gin has once again come out on top.

An International Spirits Challenge spokesman said: “Aldi currently holds the ISC's title of 'Supermarket Own Branded Spirits Range of the Year,' owing to its range being the best supermarket drinks performers in last year's competition, so we were delighted to see more products return this year.

“Receiving a gold medal is a fantastic achievement, and a testament to the quality of the spirits entered.”

Cheers to affordable yet delicious gin.
