London restaurant's 12-foot noodles

Mayfair food joint specialises in regional Chinese cuisine from Xi'an City, Shan Xi Province

London’s Murger Hanhan specialises in really unusual dishes from Shan Xi region, home of the Terracotta Army.

One of its signature dishes is the “Murger”, which is considered the Chinese equivalent to the Western hamburger and is probably the world's oldest sandwich or hamburger dating back to the Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC).

However, its hand-pulled noodles are currently grabbing foodies’ attention.

The chefs at Murger HanHan make fresh noodle dough every morning and upon ordering are hand-pulled into one entire noodle that is 12 feet long.

This is then cooked with the guest’s ordered sauce, soup or topping chosen from the menu. All the noodles are made with wheat rather than rice as rice is not harvested in the Shan Xi province.

Biang Biang Noodles

Look out for the Extra Wide Noodles, which are also hand-pulled but not split before cooking so are twice the width and half the length at 4 feet wide. There is one rice noodle dish served cold with sesame sauce.

The recommended dishes are: Biang Biang Noodles with Spring Onion and Chilli Oil, Extra Wide Noodles with Tomato, Egg and Garlic Dipping Sauce, and Cold Rice Noodles with Sesame Sauce.

Murger HanHan is the only restaurant in Europe that serves traditional drinks from Xi'an City such as Ice Peak Orange Soda and Xi'an Rice Wine (contains 0.5 per cent alcohol).
