In the latest spate of unexpected flavour combinations, Marmite has launched a yeast-based hummus.

The new product comes after Marmite launched its own peanut butter and body wash in partnership with Lynx.

Now, the brand seems to have taken its cues from customers who previously combined Marmite with hummus to create a single product to satiate their desires.

In March, the brand shared a photograph taken by one Twitter user of hummus spread on top of Marmite on toast.

“Marmite and hummus on toast. Lunch of the gods!” the caption read.

Marmite responded: “The Marmite combinations are flooding in. Marmite and hummus anyone?”

Now, several months later, the brand appears to have listened and has launched its own Marmite hummus that combines the spread’s distinctive flavour with chickpeas.

The ingredients are as follows: “Cooked chickpeas with Marmite®, tahini sesame seed paste, lemon juice from concentrate and garlic purée.”

Marmite's hummus is currently available online at Tesco for £1.50.

The launch follows on from Marmite’s peanut butter, released last year.

The spread was the first permanent product innovation since the love-it-or-hate-it brand was established in 1902.

Then, in June, Marmite surprised everyone once again by releasing its own body wash and spray with men’s grooming brand Lynx.

The product was described as having been made “for all lovers” and combines notes of white moss and green herbs with woody scents of creamy sandalwood and, er, Marmite.

Jamie Brooks, Lynx Brand Manager commented: “By combining two iconic legends that have shaped dating and breakfast culture across the nation, we have created a product like no other that is sure to get lovers and haters spreading the news.”
