Their ‘hottest ever’ sauce is made from African Bird's Eye chillies

If you like your food hotter than hot, then it’s time to put your impressive spice tolerance to the test because Nando’s has launched its spiciest sauce to date.

Aptly named “Vusa”, which means “excitement and fire” in the Zulu language, the new heat level takes the top spot on the chain’s Periometer with the brand claiming it’s their “hottest sauce ever”.

For those brave enough, the new spice level is made from African Bird's Eye chillies and will be on offer until mid-May as part of the chicken chain’s rotating guest flavours, which they introduced after the removal of mango and lime last year.

According to Chilli Pepper Madness, the African Bird’s Eye chilli - also known as the African Devil - is “a small, vibrantly-colored hot pepper found in the African wild, clocking in at 175,000 Scoville Heat Units.”

Nando’s already offers spice levels ranging from "plain...ish" to lemon and herb, medium, hot and extra hot.

As with all other heat levels, the latest spice can be added to a wide range of menu items, ranging from the restaurant’s peri-peri chicken wings, burgers, wraps and plant-based alternatives, such as the Great Imitator.

The new flavour comes after Nando’s released a limited-edition Spiced Clementine flavour over Christmas, combining seasonal spices with peri-peri and hibiscus.

While Nando's stores in England are currently closed due to the government's coronavirus lockdown measures, customers can still order a takeaway via the restaurant’s website or through Deliveroo.
