Cinco de Mayo: Chipotle releases guacamole recipe

The recipe is now available on the restaurant chain's website

Chipotle has released their guacamole recipe to the public, just in time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

It has been a common gripe among customers that the avocado-based side costs extra and many are now wondering if they should bother turning up to the restaurants at all.

With the simple recipe now online, a quick guacamole fix at home is easier than ever.

It comes ahead of the Cinco de Mayo celebrations on 5 May, which is a popular holiday in the United States and Mexico.

The day commemorates the unlikely victory of Mexican forces over the French army at the Battle of Puebla on 5 May 1862.

Many Mexican Americans celebrate the day to honour their heritage.

Publishing the recipe on their website, Chipotle wrote:

“We know that you know that guac is extra, but have you ever thought about what makes it so delicious?

“Well, it starts with sourcing the best whole ingredients possible, and ends with a quick mash in our restaurant. In fact, it’s so easy, we’re going to show you how to do it.”

Here’s the full recipe:

Ingredients:

2 ripe Hass avocados (In the restaurant, we use 48 per batch, multiple times per day)

2 tsp lime juice

2 tbsp cilantro (chopped)

1/4 cup red onion (finely chopped)

1/2 jalapeño, including seeds (finely chopped)

1/4 tsp kosher salt

Method:

1. Choose the right avocado. It should feel squishy yet firm (like the palm of your hand), and be a nice dark green color on the inside.

2. Cut the avocado in half and the remove the pit (carefully!)

3. Scoop the avocados and place in a medium bowl.

4. Toss and coat with lime juice.

5. Add the salt and using a fork or potato masher, mash until a smooth consistency is achieved.

6. Fold in the remaining ingredients and mix well.

7. Taste the guacamole (over and over) and adjust seasoning if necessary.
