Paris, known as the city of lights, fashion and traditional French cuisine is welcoming international trends this June with its first restaurant week, street food festivals and pop-up greenie gatherings.
ParisByMouth, a foodie blog, announced Le Miam's summer " street food soirées" will pop up all over the city beginning with the evening of June 1 at Bafotar, a restaurant on the Seine.
Three-star Michelin chef Yannick Alleno of Le Meurice (where lunches exceed €100) will prepare (€6-9) mini-burgers and Fauchon's Christophe Adam will create a dessert burger with strawberries.
Live music from Jupiter (pop/funk/electronic) begins at 8pm; the mini-burgers and Zubrowka bison grass vodka cocktails (€3) are served 6-8pm. Le Brunch Bazar (BB) in Paris is holding down the Australian notion of pop-ups (Greenhouse by Joost) with monthly brunches that are all about community building and green thinking.
The first Sunday each month at Comptoir General from noon to 7pm, local vendors set up an organic brunch that combines workshops and eco products, art, music, dance, food for all ages. Tickets are €3 and €0.50 goes directly to the World Wildlife Fund. http://www.brunchbazar.com (in French).
During the week of June 7, France will celebrate its first annual Restaurant Week, June with internationally renowned chefs such as Paul Bocuse, Hélène Darroze and Pierre Gagnaire.
Close to 700 restaurants, including chains and bistros, will be offering fixed price menus between €20 and €35 the entire week. Michelin-starred restaurants will not be participating but the award-winning chefs' bistros are on the list that includes 100 dining establishments in Paris.
