Celebrity square meals: Vicki Edgson's Diet Doctor snacks

I never stop concocting recipes - I've got to motivate my clients, especially the ones with specific food intolerances. Here are two short recipes. The first is a paste with the perfect combination of Omega 3, 6 and 9, which are essential fatty acids that feed the skin, hair and nails and balance hormones. It will keep you thinking clearly too. I live on it, and it is my number-one secret recipe for anti-ageing. The second recipe is a breakfast smoothie from my new book The Diet Doctors Inside and Out (written with Dr Wendy Denning and published by Vermilion, £12.99)

Super Omega Skincare Snack

Serves 1

1 tin sardines in olive oil
1 tsp orange flax seeds (or linseeds, as they're also known)
Half an avocado
Juice of 1 lemon
2-4 drops of tabasco or a pinch of cayenne pepper
1 tsp pumpkin seed oil
1 dessertspoon olive oil

Place all the ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth. Add extra lemon juice if required, and more tabasco or cayenne if you like things spicy. Serve with crudités or toasted pumpernickel or rye bread.

Breakfast smoothie

1 banana
Half a mango or half a papaya, or 1 peach or a punnet of seasonal berries (you could use frozen berries in winter as the vitamin C is preserved)
1/ 2 pint of either semi-skimmed, soya, rice or goats' milk
1 tsp each of flax seeds, pumpernickel seeds, sunflower seeds
6 unsalted almonds

Combine all in a blender and drink.
