Why rosé is the perfect autumn drink
Don't put the pink stuff away

Whilst summer is all about rosé, Pimm’s and Aperol Spritzes, come autumn and winter we tend to move on to red wine, mulled cider and Baileys.
But it turns out we’re all making a grave error, for there’s one stereotypically summery drink we shouldn’t be consigning to our wine cellars come autumn.
And that drink is rosé.
We know, it sounds like madness. Rosé? In autumn?
But according to wine expert Amelia Singer, it’s the perfect drink for the changing seasons.
“It’s essentially a hybrid wine,” Singer explains to The Independent. “Rosé has the fruitiness of a white combined with the structure of a red.”
She says that this also makes it great for pairing with food. “It can complement all kinds of cuisine and is great with the heartier fare during autumn and winter,” explains Singer, who hosts a ‘Rosé Renaissance’ supper club.
A comforting shepherd’s pie with a crisp glass of rosé, snuggled up by a fire in your cosiest PJs? We could get on board.
There’s also the fact that - whether pale or dark in colour - a pink wine adds a welcome dose of brightness on darker days.
“It’s cheering and uplifting to see rosé in your wine glass during the winter months,” Singer says.

What’s more, rosé is often cheaper than white or red wine because, according to Singer, “people don't seem to appreciate how exciting and complex it is.”
And let’s face it, in the run-up to Christmas, we could all do with saving some pennies where we can.
“Rosé is the perfect transitional wine,” says Singer.
We don’t need to be told twice.
