Vegan yoghurt recalled for containing traces of dairy

A vegan coconut yoghurt has been recalled from supermarket shelves after the Food Standards Agency issued a warning that certain batches of the product contained traces of dairy.

CO YO is a popular plant-based yoghurt available in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco and is endorsed by the likes of Nigella Lawson and Deliciously Ella

The product was found to contain a “small amount” of dairy during product testing, meaning that it poses a threat to lactose-intolerant consumers.

“We are so devastated to say traces of dairy has been found in our CO YO products,” the brand said in a statement, explaining that the “contaminated material” was provided by a third-party supplier, a relationship which has since been terminated.

They added that they are working with the Food Standards Agency and local government organisations to ensure that any of their yoghurts which may contain dairy are removed from supermarket shelves.

CO YO also reassured customers that anyone who had purchased a product from one of the contaminated batches would be offered a full refund.

Responding to an announcement made by the brand on Twitter, fans were quick to offer their support, pointing the finger at CO YO’s wayward third-party supplier.

“So sorry to hear that you’ve been so badly let down by your supplier,” one person wrote.

“Thank you for being so honest and at least a positive here is that it shows that your checks are stringent and work!”

“This is awful, especially as my son is anaphylactic to dairy,” added a concerned mother.

“Luckily he hasn't eaten them and I've seen this in time, the third party I'm afraid should stop supplying and df establishments, or be named and shamed.”
