Fortnite Battle Royale: Giant purple cube baffles gameplayers

The new season of Fortnite, season 6, is here – and it has brought all kinds of chilling fun with it.

The theme of the new season is "Darkness Rises". And that darkness is visible just about everywhere: the world has turned purple, lit up by lightning strikes that reveal seasonal horrors.

But there's still plenty of fun too. The two biggest features of the new update are pets and invisibility, ensuring you aren't stuck in the shadows for too long.

The first thing you're likely to notice are a whole host of locations, all in keeping with the theme. They include a haunted castle and a strange floating island.

The new locations are host to the Shadow Stone, which is a small cube that makes you go invisible for a short time. Invisible players can't use their weapons and will leave a visible trail if they move.

The Shadow Stones bring a whole range of other upgrades, including the ability to walk through walls and to fall without taking damage. As soon as you aim, the effect will wear off.

The other big addition is pets – which are living animals that you can wear as Back Bling. Teasers show a lizard, a dog and a dragon, though it's likely that more animals will arrive, too.

Other things have been removed, including weapons. The impulse grenade, suppressed SMG, LMG, bouncers and C4 have all gone, and others have had their attributes changed in an attempt to balance the game.

There'll also be another update, in an attempt to make the game fair. Now, players who use a keyboard and mouse on PS4 – which many take to mean cheating – will be grouped together with PC players.
