Stranger Things 2: Snapchat lets you go on a treasure hunt in the Upside Down

Snapchat has marked the release of Stranger Things 2 by launching a new World Lens that takes you into the "Upside Down".

The second season of the wildly popular show is now available to watch on Netflix, which has worked closely with Snapchat on a number of brand new features.

The most impressive of these is definitely the portal World Lens – a Snapchat first – which lets you walk into the Upside Down version of Joyce Byers' living room, through an augmented reality (AR) doorway.

You can move around the digital recreation of the room, which comes complete with fairy lights, alphabet graffiti and a giant hole in the wall.

Snapchat has hidden “interactive easter eggs” and “surprises” in the room too, which you can find by tapping on objects.

You can also look back out at the real world through the doorway.

Unfortunately, the portal only works to its full potential on the iPhone 6S and above, and you need to have iOS 11 installed.

Everyone else can see the living room through what Snapchat calls a “gyroscope Lens”, which doesn’t include the neat doorway trickery.

To open the Upside Down lens, make sure you're in rear camera mode on Snapchat, tap the screen and swipe through the options at the bottom of the screen.

Snapchat says you can also unlock the lens by using Shazam in the Snapchat app when the Stranger Things theme tune plays.

A second Stranger Things-themed lens, which will launch at 8am, lets you place the swimming pool where Barb went missing in season one onto the floor, and walk around it.

There’s a third lens too, which mimics Eleven’s nosebleed and places it over your face.

All nine episodes of Stranger Things season two are currently available to watch on Netflix.
