Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Star Wars Battlefront and Fifa 16 top the UK Christmas games charts

Despite all the hype around the film, Star Wars Battlefront couldn't beat Call of Duty in the charts

FPS blockbuster Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is this year's Christmas Number 1 game in the UK, with Star Wars Battlefront and Fifa 16 following close behind.

Given all the Star Wars hype following the release of the latest film, it would have made sense to think that Battlefront would have taken the top spot - but Call of Duty pipped it to the post, despite being released at the start of November.

Call of Duty continues to be one of the most consistently popular games out there, and Black Ops 3 reportedly took in more than $550 million (£370 million) globally in its first three days of release.

FIFA 16 is another perennial which always tends to top the charts when it comes out.

In fourth and fifth place respectively were Fallout 4, the long-awaited post-apocalyptic roleplaying game, and Minecraft: Story Mode - a point-and-click adventure game that looks a little out of place amongst all the other triple-A games.

Despite being released for current-gen consoles well over a year ago, Grand Theft Auto 5 made it into 8th place, a testament to its ongoing popularity.

Making up the rest of the Top 10 were Assassin's Creed Syndicate (6th), Just Cause 3 (7th), Rainbow Six Siege (9th) and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (10th), according to the all-platform chart compiled by Chart Track.

There's a lot of good games at the top of the charts that will be taking up a lot of time on the 25th - let's just hope that hackers don't make good on their threats to take down Xbox Live and PSN on the big day.
