Gordon Ramsay has been branded a "massive f***ing hypocrite" for promoting a "Stay At Home" advert from his Cornwall home.

The celebrity chef appeared in a YouTube video calling on the public to stay home.

"Hi, I'm Gordon Ramsay. Now in order to stop this dreadful virus, we need to stay at home," he said in the clip while urging viewers to try his recipes.

"What do we do? Let's cook along together. I've got loads of exciting recipes on my YouTube channel. Have fun and thank you."

It comes a month after the 53-year-old was criticised for taking his family to a home on the Cornish coast to ride out the lockdown.

The video, uploaded to Youtube on 24 April, appears to have enraged some. "Stay home and cook no sorry sod off on holiday to Cornwall during a pandemic. He has lost my respect. I'd rather cook with Gino de campo," one Twitter user said.

Another said: "Just a quick reminder that appearing on the youtube "stay at home #WithMe" campaign while actually being at your holiday home in Cornwall, putting locals at risk and disobeying government advice, makes you a massive f***ing hypocrite." [sic]

The former Hell's Kitchen presenter angered locals in Trebetherick last month when he travelled there from London.

Residents said Ramsay had put local people “at-risk” by travelling there from the capital, which had recorded 600 virus-related deaths by 31 March.

“This over-privileged t*** cares nothing for the people who live here,” tweeted one person. “To him we’re just ‘locals’ who should know our place.”

Another added: “The rules are clear, don’t go to your holiday home, a rule the even applies to celeb chefs”.

However, some people defended Ramsay, with one person tweeting: “He has a home in Cornwall and if he chooses to live in it whilst this crisis is with us why is that a problem, he’s not on holiday.

“Don’t make out that he’s this or he’s that, he brings a lot to Cornwall including investment and work for local people in the projects he runs.”
