Grimes shares new videos cradling baby X Æ A-12

Grimes has given fans another glimpse of her newborn baby X Æ A-12.

The Canadian singer, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, gave birth to her first child with Elon Musk on 4 May and has so far shared very few photographs or videos of the baby.

However, on Wednesday the 32-year-old posted two brief clips of the couple’s son on her Instagram stories.

The first video gave Grimes’ followers a up-close look at the baby as she cradled her son, who was wrapped up in a soft-blue blanket. X Æ A-12 could be seen lying on his side asleep as his mother gently touched the back of his head. The video also featured the word "cute" alongside a double pink heart emoj.

The singer later posted a second video that featured her face with a butterfly crown filter as she cuddled up with her son with her lips pressed near the top of his head.

The video comes after Grimes shared a heartwarming clip of Musk holding their newborn son on Sunday to mark Mother’s Day, which was celebrated in the US on 10 May.

The couple recently revealed the meaning behind their son’s unusual name.

Writing on Twitter, Grimes explained that the first “X” is a reference to the unknown variable commonly used in mathematical sums.

“Æ”, which comes next, is the Elven spelling of AI, which is shorthand for artificial intelligence and translates to “love” in several languages such as Mandarin and Japanese.

Next in the name is “A-12”, which Grimes explains is a precursor to the aircraft SR-71, which she and Musk love because it is “great in battle but non-violent”.

The A in ”A-12” is also short for Archangel, which Grimes says is her favourite song.

Musk later explained how to pronounce the name during an interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

“I mean it’s just X, the letter X,” the Tesla CEO said, adding: “Um, and then, the Æ is, like, pronounced ‘Ash’. And then, A-12, A-12 is my contribution.”

During the interview, the SpaceX founder also acknowledged that Grimes was the one who had chosen the name, saying: “First of all, my partner is the one that, actually, mostly, came up with the name.”
