Groom overcome with emotion seeing bride walk down aisle days after receiving devastating news

'How amazing is life knowing I will have you by my side until the very end?'

A groom has captured hearts after a photographer caught the emotional moment he saw his bride walk down the aisle.

Tyrone Armitage, from Melbourne, Australia, burst into tears when he saw his partner of 11 years, Kelly Armitage, walk towards him in her wedding dress.

Opening up about the big day, Armitage told Love What Matters: “All I could think was ‘Wow, wow, wow. How amazing is life knowing I will have you by my side until the very end?'

"'I can’t believe I get to do life with you, is this really happening? I’m the luckiest man to walk the planet.’"

However, while much of the emotion was spurred on by the love for his bride-to-be, there was another reason Armitage felt so overwhelmed.

Just days before the wedding, the groom-to-be was sadly informed that his father was losing his 16-year-long battle with cancer.

Upon receiving a call from his eldest sister, Armitage recalled the moment he found out his father had been told more tumours had been found in his cheek, behind his eye, in his shoulder and in his hip.

“All I could think was, he’s riddled with it,” he said.

“Hanging up on the call, all the finer details of the wedding night were quickly put into perspective when suddenly all I cared about was marrying the love of my life and having the people that mattered most there with us.

“In dad's true style he said to the doctors, ‘Do what you need to do to get me to my son's wedding and do it quickly!’”

Armitage revealed that the tears continued throughout the entire day as the bride and groom, and their friends and family were overcome with emotion.

But, what made the day all the more special was the connection Armitage felt with photographer James Day who shared that he had lost his own father to cancer some time ago.

“My now wife never ceases to amaze me, later finding out she had connected with James a few days after receiving dad’s bad news and asked him to capture a moment between Dad and I that will be a memory I hold onto for a lifetime,” he said.

“Not only did James do that, but what he captured is a reminder of how special it was having dad there and the time we spent together that night that will be with me for the rest of my life.”

Speaking of the couple’s big day, Day told The Independent: “My biggest struggle photographing Kelly and Ty's wedding was being able to see through the viewfinder through all the tears!

“I was so grateful that Kelly messaged me a few days before the wedding to fill me in on their news and to ask me if I'd be able to capture a moment between Ty and his dad.”
