NICOTINE patches could become another form of overdose for potential suicide cases, two doctors from Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital, Wisconsin, have warned. They describe in the Journal of the American Medical Association the case of a 44-year-old man with coronary artery disease who tried to kill himself by overdosing with nicotine. He placed seven 21mg nicotine patches on his chest, began smoking two cigarettes and consumed a pot of strong coffee, with the aim of bringing on a heart attack. After two hours had passed the man changed his mind and removed all the patches.
