PREGNANT women soon may be able to relax at home while their baby is monitored at the local hospital. A miniature microphone worn on the abdomen, developed by engineers in Cambridge and reported in General Practitioner, can transmit sounds of a baby's heartbeat and movements in the womb to the hospital, enabling doctors to respond promptly to signs of distress.
