MOUTHWASHES that contain alcohol should carry a warning, according to a doctor writing to the British Medical Journal, because alcohol is a recognised risk factor for mouth cancer. Dr John Llewelyn, a maxillofacial surgeon at the City Hospital, Edinburgh, fears the use of mouthwashes could be increasing the risk of oral cancer, without conferring any major benefit.
