A CORSET to relieve back pain and abdominal discomfort during pregnancy has been developed by Sheffield health professionals. The corset, made of Courtelle, a synthetic elastacised fabric, is designed to help in cases of separation of the abdominal rictus muscles, a complication that often occurs in women expecting twins. It can result in the womb 'prolapsing', leading to low backache. The corset, described in Physiotherapist, can support the abdomen during both pregnancy and labour, making pushing more effective.
