THE 100,000 children a year fitted with grommets to combat glue ear are often told that, to avoid infection, they should not swim. Now they can rest easy. A one- year study of 212 patients, reports the American Journal of Otolaryngology, showed there was no difference in the incidence of ear infection and discharge between swimmers and non-swimmers.
