Tooth decay has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, particularly among young men. US doctors found that men under 50 with dental disease had a nearly twofold risk of developing heart problems. Although no causal link between dental ill- health and heart disease has been proved, the doctors, quoted in the British Medical Journal, say poor dental health may reflect poor personal hygiene and health care.
