A bull terrier called Sam made veterinary history by being the first dog known to have open-heart surgery, it was revealed. Now fully recovered, Sam, owned by Val Eaton, 52, of Chingford, was awarded joint first prize as London regional winner of this year's Heroic Pet Award.
