Hugh Hefner’s ex-girlfriend has revealed how the late Playboy editor helped her recover from an eating disorder.

The 36-year-old model dated Hefner in 2003, when she was secretly suffering from bulimia, she confessed in a video posted by TMZ.

After the couple broke up, Cristal Camden moved into the Playboy Mansion and it soon became apparent to her fellow 'Playmates' that she was severely unwell.

Camden revealed that she was still suffering with bulimia and insisted on keeping it to herself and refused to address the problem.

Hefner reportedly confronted Camden about her illness during one of the mansion's infamous movie nights – which he hosted three nights a week.

He pulled her aside and explained that he had heard about her bulimia and stressed that he didn’t want her to suffer.

Hefer kindly told Camden that she deserved to live a long, happy and healthy life.

“He said ‘can I help you? I want to send you to treatment’ and he did,” said Camden, who had been suffering from bulimia since the age of 16.

He paid for the model to go to a rehab facility for eight months and she’s since managed to keep her disordered eating habits under control.

She explained that if Hefner hadn't supported her and spoken “those kind and loving words,” she would probably still be dealing with bulimia today and might not have even survived.

She said that she had “a wonderful experience with him and the other girls” even after the relationship came to a natural end. “It was fun, it was like family,” she said.
