Although there have been minor steps towards gender inclusivity in the makeup industry, one cosmetic brand is making leaps with a line dedicated specifically to transgender people.

Jecca is a new line of cosmetics creating products designed with transgender people in mind, and it sounds incredible.

Created by makeup artist Jessica Blackler, Jecca was inspired by the distinct beauty needs of transgender people, such as the need for a concealer capable of covering a beard shadow - and the first product in the line, a concealer palette, is just that.

As a makeup artist trained in film and TV, throughout her career Blacker has been approached by transgender women asking for makeup lessons. Noticing that many of these women had no prior experience with applying makeup, and often felt uncomfortable asking artists in makeup stores for help, Blacker realised that she could use her expertise and passion to create makeup that makes it easier for transgender people to feel comfortable in their own skin.

Although Jecca products can be used by anyone, Blacker told The Cut that the brand “overlooks gender and celebrates individuality” and “We’re not a brand that concentrates on just women.”

The first product in the line, the 'Correct and Conceal' palette, caters specifically to those looking to cover beard shadows.

Because many concealers just aren’t thick enough or are meant to cover blemishes or under eye darkness, Blacker worked to create a product that met the needs of transgender people.

Working with a cosmetic chemist to perfect the product, Jecca has launched a palette that includes a pink shade that counteracts the blue tones of a beard shadow and is thick enough to fully cover the area. And it’s vegan and cruelty-free.

Currently, the concealer palette is the only Jecca product, but Blacker has plans to expand the shades offered, as well as launch more colour products.

Blacker said, “We also have plans to address solutions for contouring - simplifying it and making contouring easier.”

Although the brand is currently small, Blacker plans to make the range as big as possible - and it looks like she could change the cosmetic industry in the process.

Jecca officially launches December 18 online, but you can preorder the Correct & Conceal palette today.
