Camden's crackdown on shopkeepers who sell cigarettes to under-age children has been a success, according to the council's trading standards officers.
Under their supervision an 11-year-old boy tried to buy cigarettes from eight shops in areas where complaints had been received, but all refused to sell them. Last year a 12-year-old-girl was sold cigarettes by three of the shops. The maximum fine is pounds 2,500.
