Kamala Harris tells her four-year-old niece 'you could be president' in heartwarming video
‘Such a lovely moment. History being made,’ one person commented
As the presidential election nears its end, a heartwarming video of Kamala Harris telling her great-niece that she could be president one day is going viral.
In the video shared this week by Ms Harris’s niece Meena, the Democratic vice presidential nominee has a heart-to-heart conversation with her four-year-old great-niece Amara Ajagu, who is sitting on her lap.
“Well you could be president,” Ms Harris can be heard telling Amara. “But not right now. You have to be over the age of 35.”
In response, the four-year-old seems to say: “I know I could be an astronaut president.”
According to Meena’s Instagram caption, the conversation “went on for like an hour”.
The children’s book author also shared the video, which has been viewed more than 461,000 times, on Twitter, where she captioned it with her aunt’s quote: “You could be president.”
In a follow-up tweet, Meena added: “For context my daughter wants to be both president and an astronaut.”
As the possibility of Ms Harris becoming the first female vice president, as well as the first Black and South Asian-American vice president, becomes likely, thousands have praised her for being an inspiration for women.
“Regardless of your political stance, you have to see the importance in this,” one person tweeted about the video. “For too long women have been told we can’t lead for a variety of (ridiculous) reasons. But we can. Tell this to your children, your nieces, your students.”
Another said: “Thank you for sharing this precious moment. I am brimming with pride at seeing our future Vice President, and yes, our girls can be astronaut presidents!”
Others shared their amusement over Ms Harris supporting her great-niece while also informing her about the requirements of being president.
“I love how the future VP calmly explains the constitutional requirements for being president to your precious daughter. What a moment to capture,” someone else wrote.
While votes are still being counted, presidential nominee Joe Biden and Ms Harris are currently in the lead in the race against President Trump.
