HUNGARIANS have not reverted to old-style forms of address ("Hungary's former comrades relearn the art of manners", 26 July); they never abandoned them. When I lived in Budapest in 1972-73, "I kiss your hand" was the most common male-to-female greeting, and the manageress of the municipal laundry invariably called me "Sir Martin My Darling" when I handed in my bundle of sheets.
