WHEN I think of the amount of taxes we so-called "townies" pay in subsidies to assist farmers, I feel they ought to think again before saying the countryside is for them and that they should be left alone ("The Barbourians are at the gates", 1 March). And how did the Labour government manage to get such an enormous majority if everything in the countryside was so good under the Conservatives?
