Letter: Self applause

EVERY THURSDAY, a week late and very expensive, the Independent on Sunday arrives on my doorstep in Auckland, New Zealand, to be opened like an eagerly awaited present. Michael Bywater, Joan Smith, Wallace Arnold and Nicholas Barber have all become a necessary part of my week.

And now Will Self joins them. Having spent two years of my law degree writing a long and depressing thesis on pornography Will Self's sympathetic and beautifully written piece on Andrea Dworkin took me back to my own student days and reminded me of what has since been washed over by the concerns of legal practice and motherhood - it will always be important to care.
