Letter: The church and the arms trade are old allies
A Senior minister, John Halliburton, is quoted thus: "We regret war but we are not a pacifist cathedral. It is nothing to do with us if firms like this provoke war; that is up to them, although as far as I know they do not."
How does this square with what Christ said: "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:44)? Arms dealers and their supporters cannot escape some responsibility for the violence that their clients commit. If weapons were unavailable, war and genocide would have to be conducted with bare hands.
