In Britain, the latest census shows that 4 out of 10 young black men in steady relationships live with white women. Around 20 per cent of black Caribbean women in the same age group are in steady relationships with white men.

Researchers estimate that by the early 1990s, out of a total ethnic population of 350,000 children under four, 70,000 were of mixed race.

The census also showed that, overall, black-white relationships generally blossom among young people of a privileged social status.
