Piers Morgan has threatened to cut his sons out of his will if they sign up for Love Island.

The outspoken Good Morning Britain host has been critical of the reality TV show in recent years and previously described the programme as “brain deadening”.

When quizzed on his knowledge of the ITV2 series by guest presenter Peter Andre on Tuesday morning, Morgan confessed that his oldest son, Spencer, is “addicted” to the programme.

“My oldest son is addicted to it, which I find really depressing,” he said, before revealing that the 25-year-old had been asked to appear on the show.

“My sons get regularly asked to go on reality television.

“I’ve said, ‘no problem!’ They go ‘really Dad?’ I said ‘Sure, as long as you don’t mind being cut out of the will, not a problem’.”

The broadcaster added that following his warning about inheritance, he has noticed a “dramatic sea change” in his son’s view about appearing on the hit ITV show.

“And at that point, funnily enough, there’s a dramatic sea change in their attitude,” he said.

“Suddenly the prize money doesn’t seem so appealing,” co-host Susannah Reid added.

Despite his disdain for the show, the 54-year-old father-of-four regularly shares his insights from the series on the ITV talk show he co-anchors.

On Tuesday morning, he blasted one of the show’s contestants’, Maura Higgins, whose “predatory” behaviour, he argued, should see her removed from the competition.

Footage of Maura attempting to kiss Tommy provoked ire from Morgan, who said that she was “forcing herself on a man – and she’s a feminist icon”.

The presenter has also accused the Irish contestant of “playing the victim”.

“Poor Maura, the man-eater,” he said.

“I do hope she recovers having assaulted half the men in the villa.”

Following more than 700 complaints to Ofcom regarding Maura’s repeated attempts to kiss fellow contestant Tommy Fury, the media watchdog announced on Monday that it would not be investigating the matter any further.

Following 20-year-old contestant Sherif’s departure from the house last month, Morgan pulled no punches on making his feelings known, writing on Twitter: “Someone called Sherif has been kicked off the Love Island villa.

“Unconfirmed reports he was found in possession of a brain cell which was deemed to give him an unfair advantage.“

Ahead of the successful show’s fifth series in June, Morgan described the programme as “dimwits prancing about saying stupid things about each other”, labelling the contestants “a contingent of brain dead zombies.
