Charlize Theron has said that she and Sean Penn were never engaged, describing the rumours as “such bulls***”.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, the Mad Max: Fury Road star was asked about her past relationship with Penn.

The couple began dating in late 2013, before separating in June 2015. A year later, Theron starred in a film directed by Penn called The Last Face.

In 2014, while they were together, it was reported that Theron and Penn had become engaged.

However, while reminiscing on the relationship half a decade later, Theron has quashed speculation that she and Penn were preparing to say their “I do’s” before their split.

“What? That’s not true, no. I did not ‘almost get married to Sean’, that’s such bulls***,” the 44-year-old said.

“No, we dated, that was literally all we did, we dated.”

Theron added that while their relationship was “definitely exclusive”, it lasted for “barely a year”.

“We never moved in. I was never going to marry him. It was nothing like that.”

Theron stated that the prospect of marriage is not one she has ever been greatly interested in.

“I never wanted to get married. That’s never been something that’s important to me,” she said.

“On the lives of my children, I’ve never been lonely. I’ve never felt alone.”

The Oscar winner added that there isn’t “a lot of room for something like that to happen” in her life at the moment.

“I enjoy being set up on dates but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to live with somebody again,” Theron stated.

“To be totally frank, they might have to buy the house next to me. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to deal with that ever again, I’m too old for that s***.”

Theron has two adopted children: eight-year-old Jackson and four-year-old August.
