Man who tells 'curvy' wife he loves her receives backlash of hatred

An open letter from a man to his 'curvy' wife went viral this week.

Robbie Tripp wrote in an Instagram post how much he loves his wife because she "fills out every inch of her jeans and is still the most beautiful one in the room."

The San Francisco-based author explained that after he educated himself "on issues such as feminism" he became aware that the media marginalised women for their size, and clarified that for him there is "nothing sexier" than his wife's "thick thighs, big booty" and "cute little side roll."

His bio also reads "husband to a curvy goddess".

Whilst initially Tripp's post was met with praise for its body positive message, a backlash of comments soon followed, condemning Tripp for his misguided understanding of feminism.

"I am so, so sick of men being patronising, imperious w***ers and thinking it makes them a 'male feminist,'" writer Dolly Alderton tweeted.

The post stipulated a slew of commentary, with Claire Cohen writing for The Telegraph, "women don't exist purely for the pleasure of men (I know, shocking isn't it?). To have their bodies appraised by men and talked about on the internet by men - even if that man is married to them."

The journalist and editor labelled Tripp a "nice guy misogynist", describing his Instagram post as a form of "mansplaining."

Many others were quick to point out that praising a woman for her fuller figure is not a defiant act of feminism, but rather a fundamentally offensive devaluation of women.

Instagram users were quick to jump in with their criticisms too, with one commenting "stop patting urself on the back for dating a curvy woman oh my god what you are doing is not revolutionary."

Another also pointed out that Tripp's post inadvertently implies that his wife is unattractive to anyone other than himself.

"The fact that he makes her seem ugly to everyone else in the universe but him is so shi**y," they wrote.

So far, the post has over 26,000 likes.
