Marriage proposal on Brooklyn Bridge goes horribly wrong

Proposal didn’t exactly go as planned for Chris Vigo and girlfriend Angelina Rivera

A video of a marriage proposal gone wrong has gone viral on social media.

Chris Vigo had planned to ask his girlfriend Angelina Rivera to marry him on Brooklyn Bridge.

A video of the moment shows that as Vigo was going down on one knee, a friend of his rushed to take a photograph.

However, the friend had positioned himself in the bike lane, prompting a cyclist to tumble over him, thus interrupting the proposal.

“I gave him a cue so he knew when I would propose," Vigo said of the instructions he gave to his photographer friend, Josh Rosario.

"He got so excited, and as he was trying to catch his angles, this guy comes and just collides with him,” the 22-year-old told the New York Post.

“He hit his brakes, but it was too late.”

In the video, Vigo can be heard checking if the cyclist, who nearly tumbles right into the couple, is alright.

“That’s in the video, but we’re going to edit that,” Vigo teases, still holding Rivera’s hand.

Recalling the moment, Vigo explained that he wasn’t sure what to do.

“We didn’t know what to say,” he said. “In my mind, I’m like, ‘Do I go over and help him, or do I stay and hold her hand?’

“At that point, we kissed, we hugged. We know we were surrounded by thousands of people, but it felt good. When I look into her eyes, everything stops.”

Vigo explained that he wanted to propose on the famous bridge because he’d lived in New York his entire life. However, he didn’t know there was a bike lane there.

“I didn’t know it was going to be the way it was, how narrow it was," he added.
