Miley Cyrus performs new single 'Slide Away' at MTV VMAs

Miley Cyrus has added a new tattoo to her already extensive collection.

On Tuesday, the singer debuted her latest piece of ink which depicts the outline of a nude woman and is inspired by the work of iconic 20th-century painter Henri Matisse.

Cyrus showed off the new addition in a black-and-white video on Instagram that starts with a close up of the tattoo on the back of her arm before zooming out as Cyrus flexes her arm muscle and snarles at the camera.

It seems the singer was inspired by the art and poetry book Dance Me to the End of Love, which pairs artwork by Matisse with Leonard Cohen’s lyrics to the song by the same name, as Cyrus wrote in the caption: “'Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin. Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in.

“Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove. Dance me to the end of love. Matisse X Cohen.“

Nico Bassill, the artist behind the singer’s new tattoo, also posted a photo of it on his own Instagram account.

Bassill shared a black-and-white image alongside a quote from Matisse, writing, "An artist must never be a prisoner. Prisoner?

"An artist should never be a prisoner of himself, prisoner of style, prisoner of reputation, prisoner of success, etc. - Henri Matisse."

The naked lady tattoo joins several others in the same area, including the star’s last name inked above her elbow and a classic heart and dagger symbol that she got during a tattoo session with boyfriend Cody Simpson last year.

Cyrus has a number of other tattoos, including two that she debuted at the MTV VMA’s last year.

During a performance of her single "Slide Away”, the singer wore a mini black dress that provided the audience with a glimpse of the new ink on her left bicep and on the side of her left hand.

The tattoo on her arm featured lyrics from Pixies song “The Thing”, written in cursive: “My head was feeling scared, but my heart was feeling free.”

The second tattoo was of the year ”1961” on the side of her left hand.

Cyrus' father, singer Billy Ray Cyrus, was born in 1961 and celebrated his 58th birthday on the eve of the awards ceremony.
