For 16 years the Goodwood Revival has celebrated and recreated the golden era of motor racing, and 2014 was no different.

Each year adults are transformed into children, as they gaze with excitement and the endless collection of vintage cars that look sublime, but go like the clappers.

This time around, however, revellers were made to feel especially child-like as Jaguar's beloved D-Type took to the track to celebrate the 60 years since the Le Mans winning car (1955, 1956 and 1957) was produced in 1954.

The Lavant Cup race saw thirty variants - the largest collection of the Coventry-built cars ever assembled in a single race - of Malcolm Sayer's design, but serial Goodwood winner Gary Pearson dominated the competition while driving a 1955 long-nose D-type.

As an iconic racing car was being celebrated, a 'new classic' was being unveiled: the Lightweight E-Type. On display in Europe for the first time, Jaguar's stunning recreation will be welcome by those itching for a vintage motor without the maintenance, though it's set to cost a cool £1m.

While not everyone will be reaching their wallets to order one just yet (don't worry, there's only six), there are still plenty of 'classic classics' to snap up.

After all, a classic car is a labour of love: half the joy and fun of driving one is knowing that you might have to have a look it once you get it back from those winding country roads.
